Facility Description

Heian Shrine was built in 1895 as a shrine for the citizens to mark the 1,100th anniversary of the relocation of the capital to Heian-kyo. The vermilion-colored shrine buildings are very beautiful, and exude the elegant atmosphere of Heian-kyo. There are plenty of things to see, such as the stroll-style garden that surrounds the main hall, covering an area of about 30,000 square meters, and the red weeping cherry blossoms in the spring and the irises in early summer.
